Adirondack Camping Village
The Adirondack Camping Village is my favorite campground. I have stayed there many times, both as a child, and as an adult with my own family. Our most recent visit was in August 2007. The sites all provide plenty of room, are reasonably level, and have lots of shade and privacy, with plenty of trees surrounding the sites. Sites with sewer, water, electric, and even cable TV are available, and regular tent sites are also available, with or without electric. The campground is basically very quiet (although from some sites you can hear the traffic on the nearby Adirondack Northway, but it is not loud enough to be a problem) and peaceful. Plenty of nearby woods mean that you can forage for fire wood, as long as it is dead. There are trails for hiking, and equipment for games (volleyball, basketball, and pool). For 2007, the installed a brand new swimming pool, along with a smaller kiddie pool with deck fountains. They also have a game room with some arcade games, checker/chess tables, a pool table and a ping pong table. You can purchase firewood, and many other supplies in the general store (if you are real lucky you might hear a story or two while you're shopping) or get advice on what to see, and do in the area. The kids will enjoy the movie barn, playground and daily hayride. Parents can stay connected with the outside world thanks to the newly installed free wifi internet which is accessible from the game room and pool area. The bathrooms have been recently renovated. They have added more showers. While the showers near the office still require quarters, the other showers now have simple five minute timers, so showers are now free. The recent improvements make the Adirondack Camping Village better than ever. There is a security gate at the entrance with a manned guard house at night, and the gates are locked after a certain time (I think around 1 am). The Adirondack Camping Village is located about a mile North of Lake George Village, on rt.9. Call them at 518-668-5226. Fax them at 528-668-4256.
