In 2005 we visited Liberty Hill Animal Land for our first time. It is a
bit over a half hour's drive from Lake George, and well worth the trip.
From the outside, the zoo doesn't look like much, but it has a lot to offer.
This small, family run zoo is in a beautiful setting, and has an impressive
assortment of animals. This awesome little zoo was great fun for my
family. We managed to spend about half the day here. They allow you
to bring your own drinks and food, and offer a nice little picnic area just off
the parking lot. The gift shop is small, but has a nice selection, with
reasonable prices. All the proceeds from the operation of the zoo go
towards caring for their animals. If you have kids that like animals, you
can't go wrong taking a trip to Liberty Hill. As an added bonus, on the
way there you can visit lock #11 on the Champlain Barge Canal. From Lake
George head South on Rt. 9. At the
beginning
of the factory outlets make a Left onto Rt. 149. In Fort Anne, turn Left
onto Rt. 4, and then make a Right onto Comstock Road (CR. 12). To visit
the canal lock, make your first Right, just before the bridge, and the lock is a
short way on the right hand side. Continue on Comstock Rd. (CR. 12), and
then make a Left onto Truthsville Rd. Follow Truthsville Rd. for one mile,
then turn Right onto DeKalb Rd. The zoo is 3/4 miles on the Left.
